“I AM BECAUSE OF HIM”
Through parallel paintings of portraits and symbols representing my brother and me, I look beyond the disability to see the ability in my brother. My paintings display themes of love, growth, and advocacy for disabilities, while also showcasing the depth of sibling relationships. The term “glass child” demonstrates the exact opposite of my childhood. My older brother, David, is much more than his disability and he has shaped me into the person I have become. I am Because of Him illustrates the inspiration and importance of sibling relationships through a wide range of color, parallel organic imagery, and personal relationships.
