“Saudade”

The Portuguese word saudade has no direct translation. It is a feeling that means having a deep, melancholic, and nostalgic longing for something absent. Many times in our lives, we long for things: for people, for moments gone that remain in our minds. My installation created a space where people can feel that nostalgia, that melancholy in the cycle of life and death as they coexist within each other. It represents the memory of a lost loved one or a friend. When you reminisce on something you can no longer have but still want, it is the connection between the life you’re living and the death of everything that's lost.
